Section 1 – Period and general rules
When is overnight parking prohibited?
- November 15 to April 15
- When a snow clearing or loading operation is in progress
- Between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.
We remind you that it is your daily responsibility to check if a snow removal operation is in effect before leaving a parked vehicle (yours or a visitor’s) on one of the public roads.
🧊 Reminder: Even if the street seems clear, wait until the ban is lifted before parking.

Have you noticed these signs in the city streets?
In the event of a parking ban, removable signs take precedence over all other signage.
This means that when they are installed on your street, they indicate the exact times when parking is prohibited.
These times may differ from the generally published schedule. When in doubt, always rely on the signs posted on your street.
Section 2 – How do I know if a ban is in effect?

The stages of a snow clearing operation
Every winter, our teams cover almost 350 km of streets, 160 km of sidewalks and 65 km of bike paths and footpaths.
To find out how a complete operation works, from the first flake to the deposit of used snow, consult our article on the subject.
Section 5 – In the event of towing or damage
We remind you that it is your daily responsibility to check if a snow removal operation is in effect before leaving a parked vehicle (yours or a visitor’s) on one of the public roads.
- Towing: SPAL – 911
Section 6- Additional resources and FAQ
Parking tickets and towing
YES.
When Ville de Brossard issues a notice prohibiting parking on public roads, the notice applies to the entire territory and for the entire duration indicated, i.e. from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., unless otherwise indicated on removable or other temporary signage. In this case, the latter takes precedence.
NO.
At all times, you must wait for the parking ban notice to be lifted by the City, as the crew may have to perform additional manoeuvres on the street to ensure that snow removal is actually completed.
YES.
Despite any permanent signage, it is forbidden to park any vehicle on a public road when a removable sign or any other temporary sign prohibiting parking has been posted. This is installed in anticipation of the loading stage, and indicates that parking is prohibited between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.
It’s better to check twice than once when parking between November 15 and April 15. A removable sign may be planted in the snow or just a few meters away from you. Be sure to take a good look before leaving your car to avoid a ticket or towing.
To locate a towed vehicle, call the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) at 911.
The Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), in collaboration with Ville de Brossard, travels the territory when there is a parking ban notice on the territory to issue tickets to offenders or tow their vehicles.
However, it may happen that SPAL team members are assigned to other tasks (e.g. storm-related accidents) and that few tickets or towing operations are carried out during the parking ban.
Eco-winter streets
It’s possible that your street is a residential street, and therefore an eco-winter street.
An eco-winter street is one where the city applies more environmentally-friendly winter practices for de-icing and maintenance.
This approach aims to use de-icing salt and abrasive stone in a more environmentally-friendly way, while ensuring the safety of pedestrians and motorists on all Brossard residential streets.
Recommended by the federal¹ and provincial² governments, the principle of eco-winter streets has already been adopted by several Quebec cities, including Ville de Brossard.
When the snow melts, road salts find their way into the environment, mainly through runoff. These run-offs compromise flora, fauna, water and soil quality to varying degrees, and degrade aquatic ecosystems and their biodiversity.
Eco-winter streets: it’s not about the bill, it’s about helping Mother Nature!
In concrete terms, this means :
- Reduced use of salt: less road salt is used to limit soil and water contamination.
- Optimized use of abrasives (e.g. stone): use appropriate quantities and methods that reduce dispersion.
- Maintaining safety: despite the reduction in chemicals, the street remains safe for pedestrians and motorists.
- Environmental objective: to reduce the negative impacts of salts (toxic for fauna, flora and water quality) while complying with federal and provincial recommendations.
In short, an eco-winter street combines winter safety with responsible management of de-icing products to protect the environment.
These products have been considered toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act for almost two decades.
¹ Code of practice: environmental management of road salts
² Quebec strategy for the environmental management of road salts
When there’s a weather cocktail, an exceptional operation is triggered to spread ice melters on the city’s residential streets.
Rules for residential snow removal
YES.
To ensure everyone’s safety during snow clearing operations, here are a few rules to follow when clearing your driveway:
- Clear the swath of snow from your driveway without pushing it back onto the street.
- Follow the regulations when installing your carport.
- Maintain a safe distance between you and snow removal vehicles.
- Ensure that no children or pets play within 3 metres of the street, including the construction of forts, tunnels or other structures, during snow removal operations (clearing, widening, blowing or loading).
- Do not place snow on a hydrant.
- Prune your trees, shrubs and hedges that encroach on the public highway (sidewalk and roadway) or obscure road signs.
- Protect your fences, shrubs, etc. in preparation for the snow that will blow onto your property.
- Do not dump snow on the street, curb or sidewalk during residential snow removal.
- Don’t put garbage or recycling bins in the street or on the sidewalk.
NO.
In order to remove all the snow from the roadway safely and efficiently, crews must leave the snow scraper on the ground in front of the entrances. Otherwise, snow would pile up in various places on the street.
If you are unable to retrieve your mail from the mailbox due to snow, you can request snow removal by creating a service ticket with Canada Post, as the Ville de Brossard is not responsible for snow removal in these areas.
