Temporary carport

A temporary shelter must be removable and used for protection from the elements. Installation is permitted from November 1 of one year to April 15 of the following year. Please note that you must comply with certain standards!

A temporary shelter must be located at a minimum distance of:

  • 0.5m from a sidewalk ;
  • 1.5m from a curb ;
  • 1.5m from the roadway, if there is no sidewalk or curb;
  • 1.5m from a fire hydrant.

It is forbidden :

  • install a removable shelter on a lawn or landscaped area;
  • use materials other than tubular galvanized steel for framing and woven or laminated polyethylene sheeting for cladding;
  • storing goods and products inside the shelter.

Noise

In general, it is forbidden to make any excessive, noisy noise likely to disturb the peace or tranquility of the neighborhood.

In a non-limitative way, is considered as being likely to disturb the peace of the neighborhood:

  • any unusual noise between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., including shouting, altercations, loud music or singing produced or audible outside.
  • a continuous noise whose intensity is equivalent to :
    • 55 db or more between 07:00 and 21:00;
    • 50 db or more between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. .
  • occasional noise with an intensity equivalent to 75 db or more, with the exception of occasional building maintenance work.
  • Hours allowed for construction work or any other work on a building requiring mechanical equipment :
    • Between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday to Friday;
    • Between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Garage Sale

Dates authorized in 2026 :

  • May 9-10
  • May 16-17
  • September 5-6-7
  • September 12-13

Allowed hours are between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. In the event of rain, the fixed periods are postponed to the end of the following week.

You can advertise your garage sale with posters in compliance with the following standards:

  • no more than two (2) signs are authorized per lot;
  • Signs are authorized only during the garage sale period and no more than seven (7) days prior to the sale;
  • the maximum surface area of each sign is set at 1.5 m2.


It is forbidden to :

  • hold a garage sale in such a way as to encroach on the sidewalk, street, bicycle path, multi-use path, visibility triangle or in such a way as to interfere with the visibility of motorists or cyclists;
  • to hold a garage sale on a vacant lot.

Authorized in spring and autumn: May 10-11 and 17-18, as well as August 30-31, September 1 and 6-7, 2025.

Grass height

Twenty centimetres (20 cm) is the maximum height your lawn should be at all times. The city carries out inspections that could lead to the issuance of statements of offence with a minimum value of $300.
We also invite you to respect the hours when cutting is permitted, i.e. :

  • Between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday

Vehicle parking

A vehicle must be parked in a parking area that complies with the by-law in both summer and winter.

It is forbidden to park a vehicle on landscaped, grassed or snow-covered areas. A parking area must be covered with a material such as asphalt, concrete or paving.

Fireworks display

It is forbidden to use pyrotechnics without first obtaining a fireworks permit.

This type of permit is issued by the Service de sécurité incendie de l’agglomération de Longueuil, under certain conditions, including :

  • Provide a scale drawing of the site where the pyrotechnics will be launched;
  • Provide a complete and detailed list of the parts used to launch the pyrotechnics;
  • Provide proof of photo identification of the pyrotechnician;
  • Provide proof of liability insurance of at least $2,000,000.
  • Fines are also provided for anyone contravening the regulations.

Exterior light


Outdoor fires are prohibited.

Burning wood, dead leaves, paper or cardboard, waste, etc. is not permitted.

You can, however, use an outdoor fireplace powered by a propane gas canister.
