Protecting rural environments and biodiversity in Brossard

A concrete project for rural birds in Bois de Brossard

Agricultural environments play an essential role in maintaining biodiversity. However, some species, including country birds, are seeing their habitat diminish over the years.

In response to this challenge, the Ville de Brossard, in collaboration with Nature-Action Québec, is putting in place facilities and practices to promote better cohabitation between farming activities and wildlife.

Among the actions deployed:

• Planting fruit bushes to provide food and shelter
• Installation of nesting boxes adapted to local species
• Implementing agricultural practices that protect habitats
• Raising awareness and supporting the farming community

🕊️ These actions provide tangible support for local species, while enhancing the ecological functions of rural environments.

An approach in line with Environmental Policy 2025

This project is directly in line with the Ville de Brossard’s Environmental Policy, adopted in 2025, which aims to protect ecosystems and strengthen the area’s resilience.

Through this initiative, the City is contributing to :

• protect and enhance local biodiversity;
• maintain functional, sustainable natural environments;
• integrate environmentally-friendly practices into land-use planning;
• raise public and community awareness of the importance of these issues.

Essential collaboration

This project is the result of close collaboration between the Ville de Brossard, Nature-Action Québec and agricultural stakeholders, including the Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA).

This collaboration enables :

• tailor interventions to the realities on the ground;
• encourage buy-in and commitment from partners;
• ensure the longevity of the facilities installed.
