Rules for respecting people and laws
Users are required to comply with all applicable legislation, including the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, the Civil Code of Québec, the Criminal Code, the Copyright Protection Act and intellectual property legislation.
Users must respect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information and the personal nature of information relating to a person’s private life within the meaning of the Civil Code of Québec.
Rules for writing messages
- Ville de Brossard’s presence on social media is not anonymous. Internet users wishing to use them to communicate with the city are therefore required to identify themselves. Ville de Brossard reserves the right not to publish a comment or answer a question if there is any doubt as to the identity of the author.
- Impersonation of a blogger, editor, moderator or any other person is not tolerated.
- To join and share, when possible, on the social media spaces administered by Ville de Brossard, users must be 12 years of age or older. Users aged 11 and under may only consult areas administered by Ville de Brossard.
Rules of good conduct
- Any comment or intervention must be courteous. The user must never use inappropriate or offensive language.
- Comments that are defamatory, hateful, xenophobic, discriminatory, homophobic, sexist, contrary to public decency, or disrespectful of individuals (for example, because of their ethnic origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, or age group) will not be accepted.
- We will not tolerate comments that could harm members of our staff.
Ville de Brossard may refrain from answering, modifying or deleting :
- Any accusation, true or false, made against an individual or the organization;
- Comments that are offensive, disrespectful, defamatory, obscene, abusive, threatening, aggressive, abusive or hurtful to any person or organization. These include racist, hateful, xenophobic and sexist comments, as well as those denigrating ethnic origin, sexual orientation or religious affiliation;
- Any solicitation or advertising intended to promote or support a business or organization (with the exception of recognized organizations as defined in the City’s Recognition Policy );
- Any incomprehensible or irrelevant comments;
- Any spam or comments sent repeatedly, as it interferes with exchanges;
- Any comment containing a sequence of special characters (e.g. !!!!###***!), which may be open to interpretation. In Internet parlance, capital letters are equivalent to shouting and can be interpreted as aggression, which is rather unpleasant for other Internet users. Any message containing one or more capitalized words (with the exception of acronyms) will be rejected;
- Any comment that refers to or encourages illegal activities or contravenes any law, regulation or government order or promotes information that is false, misleading, illegal or promotes illegal conduct or incites violence.
Ville de Brossard reserves the right to modify the rules of conduct (netiquette) or to close a forum, without prior notice.

- All remarks or comments made in social media spaces administered by Ville de Brossard must relate to its mission, activities or services. Off-topic comments are not accepted.
- Advertising or commercial messages other than those authorized by Ville de Brossard, as well as abusively repeated messages, will be systematically and immediately removed from spaces administered by the organization.
- Exchanges take place in French, except when technical terms exist only in English, or for specific projects approved by Ville de Brossard.
- Hyperlinks to other sites may be added to messages if they are not for marketing purposes and are related to the city of Brossard or its activities and services. The latter is not responsible for the content of external sites.
Authenticity of information
Internet users must ensure that the content they post is genuine and does not infringe the proprietary, privacy or other rights of any third party or entity.
Broadcast
- By posting content on a Ville de Brossard account, users grant Ville de Brossard permission and the free and unlimited right to use and distribute their content for any purpose.
- By participating in one of these forums, Internet users authorize Ville de Brossard to publish their comments on the Web for an indefinite period, which means that these messages will be indexed by Internet search engines.
