Containers accepted for green waste collection

Only the following containers are accepted:

  • Brown paper bag;
  • Cardboard box;
  • Metal or plastic container with handles, maximum weight 25 kg or 55 lbs;
  • Non-city-owned wheeled bin* in a color other than blue (without the Brossard logo), with a maximum weight of 100 kg or 220 lbs.

No plastic bags accepted.

*If your personal bin is brown or grey and could be confused with the City’s bins, we suggest identifying your bin with a square marker or coloured sticky tape on two sides of the bin. This will indicate that the bin contains green waste or branches, which will help the composting process.

Materials accepted in your green waste container

  • Grass cuttings and turf
  • Household plants, dead leaves, vines, cedar branches
  • Gardening and landscaping residues
  • Small quantities of pumpkins and garden fruit (prefer brown bin for fruit)

The city encourages the public to practice herb and leaf recycling to dispose of green waste in an environmentally-friendly way. These techniques involve leaving recently cut grass or shredded leaves in place, to give the soil and plants some of the mineral elements they need to get through the winter.
