The municipal council awards the design-build contract at a special meeting.
At a special meeting held today, the municipal council awarded the contract for the construction of Brossard’s future multigenerational center to Groupe Decarel Inc. at a cost of $27,195,000, taxes included. Located at 6425, boulevard Milan, this center will offer Brossard residents of all ages a place to meet, exchange ideas and have fun.
“I’m delighted by the announcement that work has begun on the multigenerational center. Gathering together, friendly and dynamic, the space will offer a variety of activities adapted to the needs and interests of everyone, regardless of age,” mentioned Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.
The new 4,000 m² building will include a double gymnasium with stage, changing rooms, an artist’s dressing room, various activity rooms (dance, music, arts, leisure), a bistro-style dining room and a service kitchen. The multi-generational center will also be able to accommodate disaster victims in case of need. Outside, a public square, petanque courts, interpretation trails and connections to cycling and pedestrian networks will be added. The project incorporates sustainable development principles, with eco-responsible parking.
Last May, the municipal council adopted by-law REG-462 authorizing the turnkey design-build of a multigenerational center, thereby allocating $31.8 million to the city for the project.
The Decarel Group Inc. bid obtained the highest score based on the tender criteria.
In addition, in July 2023 the Board awarded a contract for the demolition of the existing commercial building. With work nearing completion, the site will be ready for construction of the new building in March 2024.
