Ville de Brossard is proud to announce the official addition of La mémoire de l’espace II to its public collection, thanks to the generous donation of its creator, Jacques Bradet. Yesterday morning, Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard, received the work at a meeting attended by the artist, elected officials and members of the Corporation des biens culturels de Brossard, underlining the importance of this gesture to the city’s artistic heritage.
Installed in the lobby of the Centre socioculturel Alphonse-Lepage (7905, avenue San Francisco), this large-scale sculptural work enriches the municipal collection thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the Corporation des biens culturels de Brossard, a non-profit organization founded in 2007. As a key player in the development, conservation and promotion of local artistic heritage, the Corporation plays an essential role in the realization of promising projects such as this one.
La mémoire de l’espace II is a monumental 3.65-metre-high structure made of brass, copper and steel. Its movable upper section acts like a weather vane, animated by the wind or the gestures of the audience. The work is interactive and organic, in constant dialogue with its environment. A sphere engraved with human faces, symbolizing both humanity and the stars, embodies the relationship between nature and memory.
A mission to serve public art
The mission of the Corporation des biens culturels de Brossard is to enrich the city’s public art collection, support local and regional visual artists, and promote their work in venues accessible to all. Since its creation, the Corporation has acted as a catalyst for structuring cultural projects, such as the integration of La mémoire de l’espace II into a lively community venue.
A meaningful gesture
“It is with great pride that we welcome this artistic gift, which enriches our cultural heritage. This work will undoubtedly leave its mark on the imaginations of our citizens. We salute Mr. Bradet’s generosity, and I invite anyone – artist, collector or family – to consider donating or bequeathing a work to the City. By contributing to our public collection, you are contributing to a shared, living and accessible heritage. The City and the Corporation des biens culturels de Brossard are committed to honouring and preserving these gifts with the care and recognition they deserve”, declared Mayor Doreen Assaad at the official reception.
About the artist
