Towards Brossard’s first citizen participation policy

12 May 2022 Last update 17/05/2025

Today, Brossard is resuming its participatory project to create its first citizen participation policy.

In recent years, Quebecers have shown a growing willingness to take part in the decisions that affect their daily lives and their environment. The City of Brossard is no exception and, aware of this reality, had begun, at the end of 2019, a process aimed at adopting a policy that would provide a framework for its approach to citizen participation. Unfortunately, work on the project had to be interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is with great enthusiasm that the City is now resuming the project with the aim of developing a policy of citizen participation that will aim, in particular, to :

  • encourage citizens to take part in the city’s decision-making process;
  • promote dialogue between the city and its residents;
  • provide a framework for the nature of the projects proposed by the city.

“Over the past few years, Brossard has held a number of surveys, workshops, information meetings and consultations to take the pulse of Brossard residents. These activities have shown just how passionate our citizens are about the issues that affect their environment, and we want to go even further to provide a framework for citizen participation and involvement. That’s why the municipal council and the city wish to define a clear approach that will guide its employees and the public in setting up consultation activities,” emphasized Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.

Over the next few weeks, Brossard will be launching a participatory process that will combine various activities, with the aim of gathering a variety of viewpoints from citizens, city employees and elected officials. The information gathered will enable Brossard to establish the foundations of its public participation policy, so that it reflects and meets the expectations of all Brossard residents. Information on the process will soon be available at pensons.brossard.ca, the city’s public participation platform.
