The new Fire Hall 44 will be located at 2655, boulevard Matte, in Brossard, and will replace the existing fire hall at 3800, boulevard Matte.
Yesterday, several elected officials from the agglomeration and the Director of the Service de sécurité incendie de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SSIAL) officially launched construction of the new fire station 44 in Brossard.
Part of Longueuil’s 2022-2023-2024 triennial capital expenditure program, this new fire station is eagerly awaited by the SSIAL. It will enhance safety for the entire population of the Longueuil agglomeration, and provide a better living environment for firefighters, with more space for trucks and equipment.
Representing a total investment of $21.5 million, the new fire station 44 will be located at 2655, boulevard Matte, in Brossard, and will replace the current fire station at 3800, boulevard Matte, a building that no longer meets fire safety standards and requirements.
Indeed, the new building will include several innovative aspects, including a garage that will include a decontamination bay to counter the effects of cross-contamination in the event of a fire return, thus meeting current health and safety requirements. What’s more, the truck traffic bays will contain a system for capturing vehicle fumes at source, as well as a glass tower for environmentally-friendly pipe drying. Energy efficiency measures for ventilation and heating systems, as well as all-LED lighting, are also an integral part of the construction project. The new building, featuring a living environment with kitchen, dormitory, changing room and outdoor rest area, will be able to accommodate 10 firefighters per shift.
“The safety of all citizens of the Longueuil agglomeration is, and must remain, our top priority. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of this new fire station bears witness to our determination to meet this commitment. It is an eloquent example of the collaborative leadership that has been established within the new agglomeration council, enabling us to carry out projects that are promising for the future and for our community,” declared Catherine Fournier, Mayor of Ville de Longueuil and President of the Executive Committee of the agglomeration of Longueuil.
The people of Brossard and the Longueuil agglomeration can’t wait to be able to count on this new fire station, which will be at the cutting edge of fire safety,” commented Brossard mayor Doreen Assaad. The old fire station was in a state of disrepair, and we had to provide a quality environment for the firefighters who ensure the safety of the population,” continued Mayor Assaad.
“This new fire station will provide firefighters in the field with an optimized living environment and new, innovative facilities. This modern fire station has been designed to meet the current and future needs of the population of Brossard, as well as those of the entire Longueuil agglomeration. The SSIAL will be able to adapt its response to the growing and diversified development of the area in recent years. We can all be proud of this future construction, which I’m sure will exceed expectations,” concluded Jean Melançon, Director of the Service de sécurité incendie de l’agglomération de Longueuil.
