This large-scale project will offer residents and visitors a living environment that brings people together.

At the Grandes rencontres de la Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de la Rive-Sud, an event attended by over 300 guests, Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard, presented the first images of Brossard’s future downtown. This large-scale project will transform the city’s landscape, offering residents and visitors a lively, unifying living environment. In her speech at the Courtyard Hotel, the Mayor emphasized the importance of this project for Brossard’s collective future.

The future downtown: the beating heart of Brossard

The City of Brossard has unveiled its vision for making the future downtown area a dynamic and attractive place to live, one that meets the needs and aspirations of its citizens. The plan is the result of a participatory process involving the population, local stakeholders and urban planning experts. “Brossard’s future downtown will be the beating heart of our city, a great place to live, work and play. We are fortunate to be able to design a downtown in our image, one that respects our environment, our diversity and our creativity. This is a historic and strategic project for Brossard, which will have a positive impact on the entire region,” says Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.

The project for Brossard’s future downtown takes shape with the unveiling of the architectural concept, which proposes an urban, sustainable and lively vision. The future downtown will be a meeting place for citizens, workers and visitors, offering a diversity of services, shops, leisure and cultural activities. “We are proud to present this downtown project that will make Brossard a modern, attractive and dynamic city,” said Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Inclusion, sustainability, greenery and mobility

The architectural concept, developed by LEMAY, is based on four key principles: inclusion, sustainability, greenery and mobility. The future downtown will be an open, welcoming space for all, built around a large civic esplanade, the backbone of the project. It will also be a model of sustainable development, incorporating innovative solutions. Finally, it will offer abundant and varied green spaces, including a central park that will be an urban oasis in the neighborhood.

The future downtown area will be connected to the public transit network, becoming a mobility hub starting with REM’s Panama station, which will be the transit hub. Last but not least, the future city center will be a place of active mobility, encouraging people to get around on foot or by bike. It will be linked by an active loop that will bypass Highway 10 and connect the various neighborhoods. It will also be served by a transit hub that will facilitate access to the REM and other modes of mass transit.

Essential revitalization of boulevard Taschereau

The city unveiled its vision of a greener, more urban and more user-friendly boulevard Taschereau for all modes of transportation. The revitalization of this boulevard is an essential condition for the realization of the downtown project as presented. The city’s aim is to develop Taschereau Boulevard in such a way as to promote sustainable mobility, the well-being of residents and greater business traffic. In this context, an overhead REM route is out of the question.

Intelligent, green and distinctive urban densification

Brossard is gearing up to become a model city with a vision for the future based on intelligent, green and distinctive urban densification. “The population is not against densification, but they want living environments that are accessible, on a human scale, with services, green spaces and buildings that stand out. And that’s what we’re going to offer them,” announced Mayor Doreen Assaad, as she presented the video of the future downtown area, which illustrates the major orientations of Brossard’s development between now and 2040.

“We have drawn up a coherent, participative and responsible development strategy that takes into account the needs and aspirations of our citizens. We want to create attractive, user-friendly and innovative living environments that promote sustainable mobility and the influence of the downtown area. We also want to harness the potential of business tourism and innovation, drawing inspiration from international best practices. Brossard will be a modern, dynamic and welcoming city,” declared the mayor.
