Sectors B,M,P,T: Brossard municipal council adopts a bylaw to regulate work on buildings and land

20 January 2021 Last update 17/05/2025

The by-law applies mainly to single-family homes in sectors B, M, P and T.

At its January 19 municipal council meeting, the City of Brossard adopted a final by-law on site planning and architectural integration programs (SPAIP), inserting a new chapter applicable to insertions in residential built-up areas in sectors B, M, P and T.

The by-law applies mainly to single-family homes in sectors B, M, P and T. It specifies how volumes are to be integrated, particularly in the case of two-storey buildings; what architectural coherence is expected; the location, shape and size of attached or integrated garages; and the location and layout of proposed buildings and extensions.

“The adoption of this by-law responds to the shortcomings that had previously been identified; these did not allow members of the municipal council to guarantee architectural harmony in sectors B, M, P and T. From now on, the City will have the ability to ensure that proposed work in these sectors will be carried out in a manner consistent with the existing built environment and respectful of residents’ living environments”, said Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.

The bylaw sets stricter criteria to ensure that buildings are more harmoniously sited, and that any work affecting their massing or architectural style is similar and consistent with the surrounding area.
