Road safety | Ville de Brossard launches the C’est fragile campaign. Slow down.

29 August 2023 Last update 17/05/2025

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of slowing down and driving safely.

Ville de Brossard is proud to announce the launch of its new campaign entitled It’s fragile. Slow down. Several large-format displays featuring : A child is fragile. Slow down. are now visible around Brussel’s schools. This campaign aims to raise awareness among motorists of the importance of slowing down and driving carefully to protect the lives of all road users, especially the most vulnerable such as children, pedestrians and cyclists.

This campaign is accompanied by speed moderation measures that have been put in place in anticipation of the start of the new school year. Of particular note are the new bollards featuring children’s silhouettes, and the addition of several beacons along cycle paths. The road markings in school zones were also resurfaced in all sectors.

“I’m very aware of the safety issues affecting our community, and the city is committed to creating a safer, more respectful environment for all road users. The measures we’ve put in place near schools and the major campaign we’re launching today embody this commitment. Whether you’re a pedestrian or a cyclist, everyone deserves to get home safely. By slowing down and respecting the rules of the road, we all play our part in making our living environments safe,” said Mayor Doreen Assaad.

“We’ve been working on this issue with the Sustainable Mobility Committee for several months now, and we know that speed is one of our fellow citizens’ priorities when it comes to road safety. We decided that the measures we wanted to put in place had to be accompanied by a communication component to make motorists think. When you’re a pedestrian, there’s nothing you can do about a speeding car,” added Patrick Langlois, municipal councillor and chairman of the Sustainable Mobility Committee.

“Through this campaign, we wanted to evoke fragility through delicate objects and highlight the precious nature of every life on the road. We’re aiming to raise awareness among motorists who pass by our schools, parks and bike paths. It’s vital that we succeed in enforcing speed limits for everyone’s safety. With what we’re presenting today, I sincerely believe we can do it,” explained Stéphanie Quintal, Town Councillor and Chair of the Communications and Information Systems Committee.

The campaign It’s fragile. Slow down. will be deployed through a variety of communication media around school zones, bike paths, parks and pedestrian crossings. A cyclist and a pedestrian will be added in the coming weeks to accompany the child visual.

The City of Brossard invites all Brossard residents to take an active part in this campaign by sharing the safety messages with their friends and family, and by adopting responsible behavior on the road. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer environment for everyone.
