Road safety | Brossard obtains a grant to ensure the safety of road users

15 May 2024 Last update 17/05/2025

At yesterday’s town council meeting, elected representatives voted to authorize the signing of a grant agreement.

At the May 14 municipal council meeting, council members voted to authorize the signing of a grant agreement with the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD). This amounted to $1,876,114 and came from the financial surplus associated with the Municipal Cooperation Pilot Project (MCPP), through the Road Safety Fund.

“Over the past year, Brossard has demonstrated just how important road safety is. The investments made in recent months reflect our determination to create a safer, more respectful environment for all road users.
The work is far from finished, which is why we’re delighted to be able to count on the MPCP grant. This will enable us to pursue our commitment by improving our interventions on the territory to make our living environments even safer,” said Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Patrick Langlois, City Councillor and Chairman of the Sustainable Mobility Committee, also welcomed the grant: “Last year, we set ourselves the goal of getting motorists to think about their behavior and transit speeds with an initial communications campaign. We’ll be launching a second phase of this campaign this spring. We’re delighted to be able to count on additional financial resources that will enable us to deploy even more resources to ensure everyone’s safety.”

About PPCM

Launched in 2015, the PPCM involved deploying 21 photo radar systems in the largest cities and agglomerations, i.e. on the road networks managed by the cities of Montreal, Gatineau and Laval, as well as the agglomerations of Longueuil and Quebec City. The pilot project provides for the sharing of financial surpluses between municipalities and the reinvestment of the sums in the development of safety measures on its network.
