Brossard’s elected officials adopted a resolution demanding a review of the agreement and the return of bus routes 45 and 90.
At the Brossard municipal council meeting on March 18, elected officials adopted a resolution calling for a revision of the REM exclusivity agreement, to allow for a complementary public transit offer. This will guarantee users an alternative at all times by restoring express bus routes 45 and 90, among others.
“Following the numerous breakdowns of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) over the past few months, which have caused a number of problems for users in their daily commute, we have listened to the citizens of Brossard and resolved to restore express bus routes 45 and 90, which are needed to compensate for the REM’s transportation problems. Priority must be given to users and to the reliability of the public transport network. The return of these bus routes is a complementary, reliable and rapid solution that strengthens the existing offer”, says Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad.
Justified requests
In the resolution it adopted, the municipal council called on the Quebec government and the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) to permanently reinstate express bus routes 45 and 90, providing an efficient, direct link between Brossard and downtown Montreal.
A request has also been made to study scenarios for the reopening of the Chevrier terminus, which offered nearly 2,300 park-and-ride spaces and facilitated access to public transit before its closure in 2024.
The Board is also calling for an increase in the number of park-and-ride spaces at Panama station, to better meet the needs of Brossard residents and encourage the use of public transit.
Furthermore, the Brossard City Council invites the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ Infra) to take into account Brossard’s experience in the deployment of future projects, by integrating flexible solutions adapted to citizens’ needs right from the planning stage.
Users deserve consistent, reliable service that meets their expectations. The well-being of our citizens is a priority for our elected officials and the Ville de Brossard.
