Brossard, May 10, 2021 – With culture at the heart of its priorities, the City of Brossard has begun the process of updating its cultural policy and action plan. The process will last a few months, and will involve players from the cultural, economic, community, educational and health sectors, as well as the general public.
The new impetus provided by an updated cultural policy will enable the city to align its development objectives with the major areas of intervention recommended by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, and to consolidate its cultural actions for the coming years.
The city’s last cultural policy dates back to 2015. Several recent changes, notably the pandemic, are bringing new trends to the fore, and show that digital technologies are now being used more and more in the cultural field. A review of the policy is therefore necessary in order to develop an adapted and innovative cultural policy. To achieve this, the city has developed a consultative process with the ArtExpert firm accompanying it.
“We want to develop and implement a cultural policy that reflects our city and meets everyone’s needs and expectations. By taking part in the process, those working in the cultural, economic, community and educational fields on the city’s territory, as well as the people of Brossard, will be able to contribute to the identification of the cultural challenges facing the city in its development, put forward their ideas and express their views on the opportunities to be seized in terms of culture over the coming years”, emphasized Doreen Assaad, Mayor of the City of Brossard.
Two public consultation events will be held over the coming weeks. On the one hand, round tables will be organized to discuss the orientations of the next cultural policy with key players from various sectors of society and citizens involved in the cultural life of Brussells. The round tables will be held in May and are by invitation only. The discussions will give the city a clearer picture of the community’s needs and expectations, while fostering the emergence of common ground.
In addition, from May 31 to June 14, citizens will be able to take part in an online survey (available at brossard.ca/cultural-policy) to validate the policy’s orientations and specify concrete actions to enrich the cultural action plan.
The revision of the cultural policy is being carried out thanks to the financial support of the Quebec government and the City of Brossard as part of the 2021-2023 Cultural Development Agreement.
