Parc Léon-Gravel | Ville de Brossard requests vehicle access to recreational park

20 March 2024 Last update 17/05/2025

The City is requesting a right-of-way to allow automobile access to Parc Léon-Gravel.

At Brossard’s last city council meeting, held on Tuesday March 19, the city approved a resolution asking Transport Canada and the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority to grant a right-of-way over part of the access road belonging to the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC), to allow automobile access to Parc Léon-Gravel.

“Parc Léon-Gravel is one of the best points of access to the St. Lawrence River not only in Brossard, but throughout the Montérégie region. We want to facilitate access to the park and, at the same time, to the majestic river, in a safe and pleasant way for our citizens”, says Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Better accessibility

At present, vehicular access is only possible via boulevard de Rome and the one-way westbound service road on boulevard Marie-Victorin. The safety stakes are high for the most vulnerable road users.

The city is also planning to develop the Léon-Gravel park to provide greater access to the riverbank and safeguard its biodiversity. Since 1982, the city has leased two lots from the federal authorities. Since 2016, the Town has taken several steps to acquire these two lots. As we do not own most of the park, redevelopment work is currently limited to the strict minimum. The city is awaiting a decision from the federal government before acquiring it.
