Confirmation of the Brossard location and start of construction in 2026.
Longueuil – Confirmed by the agglomeration’s executive committee on February 7, the new police station for the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) will be built on the site of the former police station at 6840, boulevard Milan, in Brossard. A sum of $24.3 million has been earmarked in the 2024-2026 agglomeration three-year capital expenditure program (PTI) for this project. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026, and will bring together several SPAL departments, including Community Services, Operations Support, the 911 Relief Center and the Police Information Department.
As mentioned last June, following a detailed analysis of several potential sites, this land stood out as the ideal location for the new substation. In fact, the site’s vocation is already dedicated to such a use, and its proximity to several transport routes and strategic position between two major development hubs weighed in favor of this location compared with the other options.
“The start-up of this project, which will require the collaboration of various teams within our cities, bears witness to the new era of collaboration between the elected representatives of the Longueuil agglomeration. I would like to pay tribute to the work of the technical teams and external professionals whose mandate it was to study the various scenarios for setting up this new substation, the aim of which is to serve a growing population in the western part of the territory”, stated Catherine Fournier, President of the Longueuil agglomeration executive committee.
“I’m very pleased with the agglomeration executive committee’s approval of the Milan site. We’ve been calling for the return of a police station to Brossard for a long time, and every step we take brings us closer to our goal. For our citizens, the land at 6840, boulevard Milan is the ideal location for this new police station. Bridging the gap between our future downtown and the Quartier Dix30, this site was an obvious choice for its accessibility. In addition to being right in the heart of the action, it will enhance SPAL’s service offering in response to demographic growth and development in the area,” added Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.
“The SPAL is delighted with the start-up of this major project in the western part of its intervention territory, which will bring together under the same roof several services offered to the community to ensure the safety of the population of the Longueuil agglomeration. This project is strongly desired by all our teams, and will enable us to pursue our efforts to bring our fellow citizens closer together in a key sector undergoing major transformation”, added Patrick Bélanger, Director of SPAL.
Acknowledging the great interest of this structuring project for the entire Longueuil agglomeration community, and in order to promote the smooth integration of this infrastructure into its new host environment, a community relations approach is currently being developed. The main aim of this approach will be to keep the public informed of the project’s progress and to remain attentive to their needs as the work progresses.
