Brossard, July 12, 2019 – At a special city council meeting held on the evening of July 11, Brossard city council adopted a new structure for its administrative department. The new structure will comprise two administrative units: Quality of Life and Asset Management.
The City’s various departments will be assigned to one of the new units or to the Administration Department. The Quality of Life administrative unit will be responsible for urban planning, recreation, culture and community life, business intelligence and innovation, and the library. The Asset Management administrative unit will be responsible for public works, engineering and the project office. General Manager Pierre Archambault will be responsible for support services.
New appointments
To fill the new positions, the municipal council approved two new appointments: Jean Bergeron has been appointed Assistant General Manager, Quality of Life, and Jean-Pierre Richard has been appointed Assistant General Manager, Asset Management.
Mr. Bergeron’s career in municipal administration spans more than 30 years. Trained as an urban planner, he was first Director of Planning and Development for the City of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, then General Manager of the Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville borough, then General Manager of the City of La Prairie for 14 years, and Strategic Planning Advisor at the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) before being hired by the City of Brossard.
Mr. Richard also has a long career in municipal administration. Trained as an engineer, he has been Director of the Brossard project office for the past few months. His previous positions include Director of Public Works for the City of Candiac, Director of the Technical Studies Division for the Borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Project Director for Waterworks Services for the City of Montreal, Director of the Engineering Department for five years at the City of Longueuil, and Head of the Civil Engineering Section at the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
“With this new structure, we are confident that we will be able to meet the many challenges facing the City in terms of growth, urban planning and citizen services, and firmly believe that the new resources that will be joining our team, in addition to the highly qualified people already on board, will enable us to continue on the path to success,” said Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad and General Manager Pierre Archambault.
A well-deserved retirement
Claude Chevalier, who was Executive Vice President Operations, decided a few weeks ago to retire, and will leave his post on Friday July 12. Mr. Chevalier had been working for the City of Brossard as Assistant General Manager for six years. He was the city’s fire chief from 1999 to 2002.
“Claude’s contribution to the City of Brossard has been exceptional, and we will miss his expertise,” said the General Manager. “I was sorry to hear of his retirement, but I know we can count on his invaluable advice in times of need.”
