National Day of Truth and Reconciliation | Brossard City Hall lit up in orange

30 September 2023 Last update 17/05/2025

The City of Brossard has proclaimed September 30 National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

At its meeting on September 19, the municipal council of the City of Brossard proclaimed September 30 as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. This date is also associated with Orange Sweater Day in Canada.

Today, the City of Brossard pays tribute to the Aboriginal children who were never able to return home from residential schools, to the survivors, and to their families and communities. For the occasion, Brossard City Hall is lit up in orange.

“It’s important to mark this day and take the time to think about the children and families who suffered enormously and who are still suffering from the consequences of residential schools in Canada. It’s important to keep alive the memory of those who never returned home, even though it’s difficult to immerse oneself in this painful part of Canadian history. Members of Aboriginal communities deserve our full consideration and support,” declared Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Brussells residents are invited to wear an orange sweater in solidarity with indigenous peoples.
