Ville de Brossard joins the protest movement and suspends its advertising purchases on social networks Facebook and Instagram.
Brossard,July 7 2023 – Following in the footsteps of the provincial and federal governments, as well as the cities of Montréal, Québec, Laval and Longueuil, the Ville de Brossard is joining the protest movement and suspending its advertising purchases on the social networks Facebook and Instagram.
For the municipal administration, this mobilization is essential to support the media. Access to quality information from verified sources is essential in an age when misinformation abounds.
Web giant Meta has reacted strongly to Bill C-18, which requires social media companies to pay traditional media for journalistic content shared on their platforms. The company stressed that it would stop relaying Canadian news as soon as the bill was passed.
Ville de Brossard is following up on the initiative taken by the Union des municipalités du Québec by inviting other municipalities to follow suit in order to ensure a healthy media environment.
