In mid-September, the City of Brossard will proudly launch its plan to modernize street lighting throughout its territory. Throughout the autumn, the town will be converting its 4,808 road lighting fixtures from sodium to light-emitting diode (LED) technology. The project will not only optimize lighting conditions, but also deliver major environmental and financial benefits.
The $1.8 million investment will generate a return on investment over the next five years, thanks to a significant reduction in expenses, estimated at $348,995.45 annually.
Why is Brossard modernizing its street lighting network?
Seeing and being seen
In addition to standardizing lighting, the new LED luminaires enhance safety and comfort for residents by improving visibility of the roadway. LED lighting makes it easier to perceive colors and shapes.
Benefit from reliable, long-lasting technology
LED technology is renowned for its high energy efficiency and long life. It lasts 5 times longer than a high-pressure sodium bulb, currently used in Brossard.
Save money
Converting luminaires to LED technology will have a significant impact on the city’s energy consumption. What’s more, LED luminaires require less maintenance thanks to their long service life.
Protecting the starry sky
From an environmental point of view, LED directional lighting prevents light loss to the sky. What’s more, the equipment installed is “dark sky” certified, reducing light pollution from street lighting to a minimum.
