Today marked the launch of L’art public au détour, a free activity created as part of the BaladoDécouverte application.
Held as part of a cultural noontime program, the event was followed by Jérôme Charlebois and Annie Roy’s show Petits mots pour grands enfants, and a family public art hunt at 1 pm.
The City of Brossard owns numerous works installed both inside and outside buildings and on land accessible to the public. Their main characteristic is not necessarily their size, but rather the dialogue they establish with the surrounding space. They can be discreet or more imposing, in harmony or in contrast with the site where they are located. Some are intended to mark the urban space, while others may have a commemorative or identity-related dimension.
We can, of course, appreciate them for their beauty, but when we can grasp all their nuances, it’s an opportunity to see things from a completely different angle. These works are windows onto the imaginary, and their full meaning is revealed when the artists give us their interpretation.
“With a view to giving them all the importance they deserve, and allowing the public or people passing through to take a completely new look at them, this project was a natural choice. L’art public au détour gives us access to an interactive map in the BaladoDécouverte application, with photos and podcasts of the works. A magnificent open-air art gallery,” says Mayor Doreen Assaad.
From now on, you can create your own personalized tour to suit your mood, whether it’s a random stroll or a family treasure hunt. On site, participants simply scan the QR code with their mobile device’s camera to learn more about the work in front of them. It’s a unique opportunity to discover or rediscover Brossard.
“Supporting free cultural initiatives that benefit citizens, such as L’art public au détour, is one of the raisons d’être of cultural development agreements. With its interactive map and numerous indoor and outdoor works, this activity promises a rich and diverse cultural experience,” adds Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Culture and Communications, Minister responsible for Youth and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region.
This project was made possible thanks to $21,200 in financial support from the Government of Quebec and the City of Brossard under the Entente de développement culturel.
