January Brossard City Council | Important decisions for citizens

19 January 2022 Last update 19/05/2025

At last night’s regular meeting of the Brossard City Council, elected officials adopted a number of resolutions that will, among other things, clearly define the mandates of the various council committees and commissions, and maintain the increased funding granted by the city to local organizations.

Here is a summary of these decisions.

Adoption of a reference guide and terms of reference for Board committees and commissions

Given the importance of the work of committees and commissions in municipal life, the municipal council has adopted a reference guide and mandates for committees and commissions. Through their activities, citizens, partners, elected officials and civil servants exchange, discuss and draw up recommendations for the municipal council, in order to contribute to informed decision-making in the best interests of citizens.

“The work of our committees and commissions has a direct impact on the lives of our citizens. I’m thinking of initiatives such as the Sustainable Mobility Committee’s speed mitigation plan, the Environment Commission’s climate change adaptation plan, which includes the Town’s carbon footprint, and the Living Environment Commission’s reworking of the Policy for the Recognition and Support of Organizations,” explained Mayor Doreen Assaad.

This guide is available to the public on the City’s website at comite.

Maintain subsidies to recognized community organizations

The elected officials recognize the importance of the contribution made by the organizations that work with the population, and have reaffirmed their desire to continue the support offered, especially in times of pandemic and in the possible context of post-Covid recovery, when the needs of the community are important and urgent.

In this context, it was adopted that the City will maintain the subsidized amounts granted under the two (2) financial support programs available to organizations, namely :

  • Funding assistance program maintained at $1,000 per year;
  • Special projects program maintained at a maximum of $5,000 per year.

“These recognized organizations are our angels in the field, making a real difference for our fellow citizens in need. I want them to know that we will continue to support them in carrying out their mission, and that we warmly thank them for their commitment,” emphasized the mayor.
