At the regular meeting of the Ville de Brossard municipal council held on February 15, elected officials adopted a number of resolutions that will, among other things, enable the city to adhere to the 2022-2023 subsidy program for cracked houses, submit an application for recognition as a tourist zone for the Ville de Brossard, authorize environmental subsidies for 2022, and participate in a project to draw up a social portrait of the Ville de Brossard.
Here is a summary of these decisions.
Cracked houses, joining the 2022-2023 program
Once again this year, Brossard’s municipal council has authorized the city to apply to the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) to participate in the Rénovation Québec program’s Component VI “Les maisons lézardées” for the 2022-2023 period, for which the city has committed to investing a maximum of $600,000.
Under the Rénovation Québec program, the City of Brossard offers compensation that allows homeowners to recover two-thirds, or 66%, of the value of eligible work, up to a maximum of $24,000 ($12,000 City / $12,000 SHQ), for a minimum work value of $5,000.
“This remains an important issue for many Brossard homeowners. The city wishes to pursue the efforts it has made in recent years to help affected homeowners,” said Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.
Tourist zone status for Brossard
To support the dynamism and growth of its economy, the City of Brossard wishes to submit a new official request to the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation to be granted annual tourist zone status.
A major economic hub on the South Shore, Brossard plays a key role with nearly 1,500 businesses. By obtaining tourist zone status, merchants will be able to play an even greater role in the city’s vitality, and take full advantage of the increased number of tourists and convention-goers. In addition, this designation offers businesses the opportunity to adjust their opening hours. As a result, Brossard’s economic vitality will be more sustained, while at the same time complementing that of the Montérégie and Montreal regions.
“Over the past few months, the City of Brossard has brought together the driving forces of the local business community in a major mobilization. Tourist zone status is a flagship action that demonstrates our motivation to stimulate the city’s commercial activity as much as possible,” insisted the mayor.
Return of environmental subsidies by 2022
Incentives, such as subsidy programs, are effective tools for encouraging certain behaviors. Indeed, it has been shown that offering appropriate financial incentives to the population is an essential means of influencing the adoption of eco-responsible choices.
This year, Ville de Brossard will again offer the following subsidy programs:
– Domestic composters
– Rainwater barrels
– Washable diapers
– Purchase of a tree for planting in progress before
– Reusable feminine hygiene products
– Funding program for environmental and sustainable development projects
“I invite the citizens of Brossard to take advantage of these programs, starting April 22. For us, this program is important because it represents an example of a concrete tool for reducing our impact on the environment,” emphasized Ms. Assaad.
A better understanding of Brossard’s social profile
The Table de concertation de Brossard is a group of Brossard organizations that actively collaborate on various aspects of quality of life, with the aim of optimizing interventions in the community. The City of Brossard is supporting the Table as part of an initiative to define a social portrait of the city. In concrete terms, the aim is to deepen the existing statistical data and refine the data collection process by achieving greater representativeness of the Brussells population, notably through sector-based citizen consultations.
“I’m proud that the city is taking part in this project, piloted by the Table de concertation de Brossard, which will enable us to identify the issues specific to each sector and develop targeted social and community intervention strategies for our population,” expressed the mayor of Brossard.
