Citizen initiative, parking stickers and successful events
At the City of Brossard’s regular council meeting held on October 18, elected officials awarded various contracts and adopted a number of resolutions. The resolutions adopted will, in particular :
- to initiate a citizens’ initiative for the development of the Saint-Laurent sector;
- introduce a parking sticker system for residents near REM stations.
CITIZENS’ INITIATIVE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SAINT-LAURENT SECTOR
Considering the evolution of the area, the particularities of the territory, as well as the limited space available to develop parks and green spaces, the City wishes to initiate a citizen participation process to guide the development work that will take place over the next few years. This process will involve local residents, who are the main users of these infrastructures, and will enable the city to ensure that the new developments meet citizens’ expectations.
The aim of the process is to determine which developments should be prioritized in Parc Saint-François, the new park surrounding the LUM Pur Fleuve project, as well as on Boulevard Saint-Laurent and Place Saint-Charles, by integrating the expectations of residents with regard to the development of these public spaces.
PARKING STICKERS FOR AREAS NEAR METROPOLITAN EXPRESSWAY (REM) STATIONS
In anticipation of the launch of the REM, scheduled for autumn 2022, the municipal council has adopted a draft bylaw on traffic and parking. It calls for the implementation of measures to prioritize on-street parking spaces for residents in areas close to REM stations. More specifically, this project will :
- introduce zones where long-term on-street parking is prohibited for non-residents;
- introduce a vignette system for residents of the areas concerned.
Residents in the areas affected by these new measures will receive a letter in the mail in November to find out how to obtain their free vignette.
BACK TO SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL EVENTS
Great success for the Grande marche de Brossard
Over 3,500 people gathered last weekend at the Grand Parc urbain to take part in La Grande marche de Brossard, encouraged by the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie and prescribed by family doctors. Citizens donned their finest costumes for the occasion, and had the chance to explore a Halloween-inspired 3 km trail.
Planting activities – Santerre Park
Over 1,300 plants were planted on September 23 and 24, creating a food forest and an urban forest as part of the biodiversity corridor project. This planting project was carried out with the help of some one hundred Yves Rocher North America employees, Brossard residents and schoolchildren, who contributed to enhancing the park’s biodiversity.
This activity was made possible thanks to the contribution of the Yves Rocher Foundation, as well as the support of Arbre-Évolution and the Société pour la nature et les parcs – SNAP Québec.
Over 700 active young at heart!
Many young at heart took part in the various activities organized during Brossard’s Semaine des jeunes de cœur, which focused on the theme of “Taking care of ourselves”. Under the aegis of our spokesperson Marcel Leboeuf, hundreds of participants were able to enhance their well-being, meet new people, discover and share life experiences through conferences, shows, physical and artistic activities.
