The cities of Longueuil and Brossard are getting ready to breathe new life into Grande Allée. Starting in mid-April, a major worksite, scheduled to last until the end of 2028, will thoroughly modernize this artery – improving safety, mobility and quality of life for all its users. The work will be carried out in several phases and will require increased travel planning.

A structuring project for the sector
With its infrastructure reaching the end of its useful life, a thorough overhaul was called for. Representing an investment of $42 million shared between the two cities, this major project involves the complete rehabilitation of Grande Allée, between rue Bellevue in Longueuil (avenue Alma in Brossard) and rue Jonergin in Longueuil (avenue Baudelaire in Brossard) over a distance of 2.1 km.
The project includes reconstruction of the roadway, sidewalks, lighting and traffic lights, replacement of drinking water pipes and rehabilitation or reconstruction of sewer pipes. It also calls for the addition of reserved bus lanes and one-way bicycle lanes, as well as greening and improving the quality of the living environment.
Throughout the works, traffic will be kept moving, with at least one lane in each direction, and shops will remain accessible. Users are invited to allow more time for their journeys, to follow the appropriate signage in place or, where possible, to opt for alternative routes. Detour routes will be set up as work progresses.
New at a liaison officer to support citizens
As part of this project, a liaison officer will be present in the field throughout the project to act as a point of contact for the population. His role will be to answer questions, gather concerns and follow up with the teams involved. It will thus help to facilitate communications and maintain access during construction work. He can be reached at [email protected].
“I know how long the Grande-Allée rehabilitation project between rue Bellevue and rue Jonergin has been awaited. After years of planning between Longueuil and Brossard, we’re finally here! Grande Allée is a major artery serving both our cities, and its infrastructure (sewer, aqueduct, street structure, etc.) needed a thorough overhaul. We will take advantage of this opportunity to make this artery safer, more pleasant and better adapted to the needs of residents. That said, we are fully aware of the inconvenience that work of this scale entails, and we are doing everything we can to minimize it,” says Longueuil Mayor Catherine Fournier.
“This project is the fruit of close collaboration between the cities of Longueuil and Brossard, in partnership with the Réseau de transport de l’agglomération de Longueuil, to provide safer facilities better adapted to the needs of the population. In this context, we would like to thank residents for their patience, and invite them to plan their routes and follow the signage in place throughout the duration of the work”, added Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad.
