A natural gas leak occurred this morning on Boulevard du Quartier, at the Solar commercial and residential complex.
The leak was caused by a backhoe belonging to a private company touching a 2″ pipe belonging to Energir.
Around 1,000 residents and shopkeepers in the area were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Nearly 17,000 Hydro-Québec customers were left without power to allow the on-site response team to plug the leak as quickly and safely as possible. Although many residents have been reconnected, power should be restored to all affected homes within a few hours.
