First phase of redevelopment | Work begins at Poly-Aréna Park

The municipal council has awarded a contract to Gestion Dexsen inc. for phase 1A of the redevelopment of Poly-aréna park.

On Tuesday evening, the municipal council awarded a contract to Gestion Dexsen inc. for work on phase 1A of the redevelopment of Poly-aréna park, following a public call for tenders that closed on July 13, 2023.

The first phase of this major project will begin in early September, kicking off work on the Functional and Technical Plan (FTP) drawn up in conjunction with the Master Plan for Public and Recreational Facilities. The work represents an investment of $1.6 million, some 20% less than the initial estimate, and consists of the complete refurbishment of the six tennis courts, including lighting and fencing, the installation of a vegetated retention basin, the addition of street furniture and the planting of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. This phase of the project is scheduled for completion in summer 2024.

The aim of the PFT was to refine the site’s needs and spatial organization, in order to maximize its use, improve fluidity and safety between users, and optimize the customer experience. Eventually, the plan calls for the park to be completely redeveloped, with improved sports and recreational facilities and a user-friendly layout featuring a public square and a brand-new reception pavilion.

“Parc Poly-Aréna is the city’s most important sports complex. Dedicated to the practice of a wide range of activities on a variety of outdoor platforms, it is also a prime gathering place for festive events. Our ambition is to adapt to the needs of the population by placing them at the heart of our town’s development. The council and I are extremely proud of the major projects underway throughout our territory. We’re building the Brossard of tomorrow, and we can’t wait to see our city grow and change,” declared Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Three further phases are planned. The most striking features and changes will be the addition of a welcome pavilion, a public square incorporating a cool-down area, six pickleball courts, two additional tennis courts, a cricket pitch, pedestrian and cycling paths, street furniture, an outdoor skating rink and a slide mound. A number of existing infrastructures will also be upgraded. In short, within a few years, residents will be able to enjoy one of the most beautiful parks on the South Shore of Montreal.
