Come and admire the works of this artist, inspired by her own migratory journey and the rituals of her homeland: Romania.

From February 25 to April 16, Ville de Brossard presents an exhibition by Brossard artist Veronica Dragnef, entitled RῙtus, at the Galerie d’art Renée-Blain, located at the Centre socioculturel Alphonse-Lepage. The public is invited to come and admire the works of this artist, inspired by her own migratory journey and the rituals of her native Romania. The artist will be present at the exhibition opening on Saturday February 25 from 1 to 4 pm to meet the public. Admission is free.

Exhibition and globalization

RῙtus is an art installation about the importance of ritual. It is also a reflection on the role of material culture in the reconstruction of migrant identity in an era of globalization, international migration and the rise of individualism, virtualization and simulation.

Some of the works presented are inspired by seasonal objects from Romanian and Eastern European popular culture (the “Caloianul” dolls, the painted egg). They are not objects of fine art, but minor objects of ritual use that offer an opportunity to understand the many facets of personal and collective identity. Intangible heritage provides a sense of identity and continuity, a veritable melting pot of cultural diversity.

Two other exhibitions will be on view in March and April: Christine Larivière‘s at Hall des Arts, City Hall, from March 10 to April 27, and Raquel Maciel‘s at Espace Mur-mur des arts, Brossard Georgette-Lepage Library, from March 10 to April 30.
