Ville de Brossard would like to pay tribute to Gilbert Lizotte, city councillor from 2005 to 2009, who passed away on Saturday, August 21, at the age of 79, following a battle with esophageal cancer. The flags in front of the Town Hall, lowered to half-mast last week in honour of Mr. Alphonse Lepage, take on a double meaning today, in memory of these two men who devoted their lives to serving the people of Brossard.
“On behalf of the members of the municipal council, I would like to convey my most sincere condolences to the wife and family of Mr. Lizotte, a dedicated man, a strong man, an involved man. Above all, he was a committed citizen in his community, whether as an elected official, in his social and sports involvement and, most recently, as a City crossing guard,” said Mayor Doreen Assaad.
“Our father was a man of action, a warrior! He was to the end. He loved life and wanted everyone to be able to make the most of their opportunities. For him, there were no problems, only solutions,” added his children, Éliane and Donald Lizotte, on behalf of the family.
Funeral home and ceremony – Sunday, September 19, 1 to 4 p.m.
Citizens wishing to pay their last respects to Mr. Gilbert Lizotte may do so at the Maison Darche, located at 7679 Boul. Taschereau in Brossard, Sunday, September 19, between 1 and 4 pm. A ceremony will follow at the same location. Please note that family and friends will retire in private following the ceremony.

A Brossard resident since 1972, Gilbert Lizotte was a municipal councillor from 2005 to 2009. Throughout his life, he fought many battles for the people of Brossard, the most important of which was the demerger of the town in 2004, alongside former mayor Jean-Marc Pelletier. A man of heart and action involved in his community, Mr. Lizotte has spent more than a decade working with young people, notably with the ARJB, the Tournoi Atome Provincial de Brossard and the women’s softball league. His life of service has also found expression in his professional life, as he has helped many unemployed people find work. A resident of Manoir Brossard, where he remained an active and rallying member of his community, Gilbert Lizotte even acted as a part-time crossing guard for the city. Until the end, he will mobilize and protect his fellow citizens of all ages.
