Following the relaxation of certain sanitary measures in the red zone, announced by the Quebec government, for the spring break period from February 26 to March 7, the City of Brossard is announcing an update to its range of activities, including access to the Complexe aquatique’s open-air pool and indoor skating rinks.
“As spring break approaches, we’re delighted to be able to expand our choice of indoor and outdoor activities for citizens. On behalf of the Ville de Brossard, I invite all Brossardites to take full advantage of the school break with their families,” declared Mayor Doreen Assaad.
Fest-Hiver: Snowball rally and snowman contest
Children can take advantage of the vacation to search for the eight clues in the Snowball Rally. This dynamic, interactive adventure will take place in the Sorbonne and Roger parks, as well as online in virtual mode. For more information: brossard.ca/winterfest.
The snowman design competition with its theme of the colors of the world continues until March 8. Snow or recycled materials are accepted in the manufacturing process. A random draw will determine the eight winners, each of whom will receive a $50 gift card to a local business.

Free indoor activities
With the relaxation of government regulations, the City of Brossard will be offering free indoor activities starting Friday, February 26, for residents only and by reservation only. Several reservation slots are available, day and evening, both weekdays and weekends. Here are the terms and conditions for each location:
Free skating
- Aréna Michel-Normandin :
– limit of 15 skaters at a time for free skating;
– limit of 12 skaters at a time for free figure skating;
– possible rental of 1/3 rink in compliance with the directives of the Direction générale de la santé publique.
- Complexe Bell Arena (free skating): limit of 23 skaters at a time.

Free baths
- Aquatic complex (open bathing): limit of 35 bathers per pool.
Note: to ensure compliance with physical separation guidelines, the number of bathers per pool is set at 35, in line with changing room separation standards. What’s more, access to the three pools will be rotated to avoid 105 bathers arriving and leaving at the same time. Finally, we remind you that access to the Aquatic Complex is free during the running-in period, as the experience is not optimal due to the COVID sanitary guidelines in place. Free outdoor activities: enjoy the fresh air
Whether it’s snowshoeing, skating or cross-country skiing, Brossard offers many opportunities for free outdoor activities in its parks to enjoy winter, alone or with the family. The Centre de plein air (reservations required) and the Grand parc urbain are two very inviting sites.
The sliding slope at the Grand Parc Urbain has recently reopened thanks to the installation of hay bales and, in the near future, cushions to cushion falls and make the activity more enjoyable.
On the outdoor rinks, the City maintains the maximum capacity for free skating at 24 people, while a maximum of 16 people can practice with sticks and pucks, according to the new schedule. Practice with stick and puck is permitted on a bubble or in a group, depending on government guidelines.

Georgette-Lepage Brossard Library: a week of virtual activities
During this special week, children’s librarians are offering a variety of activities for 5 to 12 year-olds every day. From Monday to Thursday at 1 p.m., discover a capsule on the Library’s Facebook page proposing a challenge, a craft or a recipe. On Fridays, two live activities are offered (registration required): Close-up on felines – Granby Zoo and Quiz Cerveau sans relâche!

Following the government of Quebec’s easing of some sanitary measures in red zones, the Ville de Brossard has announced an update to the activities it will be offering during the March break (February 26 to March 7), including access to indoor rinks and recreational swimming at the Aquatic Complex.
“With the March break approaching, we’re delighted that we can expand the selection of indoor and outdoor activities available to residents. On behalf of the Ville de Brossard, I encourage people to take full advantage of them with their family during the school break,” said Mayor Doreen Assaad.
Fest-Hiver: Snowball Scavenger Hunt and Snowmen Contest
Children can have some fun during the break by hunting for eight clues in the Snowball Scavenger Hunt. This dynamic, interactive adventure will take place at Parc Sorbonne and Parc Roger along with a virtual online component. To learn more, go to brossard.ca/fest-hiver.
The contest to build a snowman under the theme of a country from around the world will run until March 8. Anything can be used to make snowmen, including snow and repurposed materials. A draw will be held to decide the eight winners, each of whom will receive a gift certificate valued at $50 for a local store.

Indoor Recreational Activities
With the easing of the government’s directives, the Ville de Brossard will offer indoor recreational activities starting Friday, February 26. These are exclusively for residents and by reservation only. Multiple time slots are available during the day and the evening, both on weekdays and weekends. Here are the details for each location:
Recreational Skating
- Michel-Normandin Arena:
– Limit of 15 skaters at a time for recreational skating
– Limit of 12 skaters at a time for recreational figure skating
– Option of booking one-third of the rink for an activity that complies with public health department directives
- Bell Sports Complex (recreational skating): limit of 23 skaters at a time

Recreational Swimming
- Aquatic Complex (recreational swimming): limit of 35 swimmers per pool
Note: To ensure compliance with physical distancing guidelines, the number of swimmers per pool is limited to 35 due to the distancing requirements in the changing rooms. In addition, access to the three pools will be staggered to avoid 105 swimmers arriving and leaving at the same time. Please note that access to the Aquatic Complex is free during the trial period, since the user experience is not optimal as a result of the COVID restrictions in effect. Outdoor Recreational Activities: Enjoy the Fresh Air
Whether it’s snowshoeing, ice skating or cross-country skiing, Brossard offers multiple options for enjoying outdoor recreational activities in the city’s parks during wintertime, either on your own or with your family. The Centre de Plein Air (by reservation only) and Grand Parc Urbain are just two of the visitor-friendly sites available.
It should be noted that the sledding hill in Grand Parc Urbain recently reopened following the addition of hay bales aimed at making the activity more pleasant by gently slowing sleds. Safety padding will soon be introduced as well.
The city’s outdoor rinks, meanwhile, will maintain a maximum capacity of 24 people for recreational skating, while a maximum of 16 people may play field hockey with a stick and puck, based on the new schedule in effect. Playing field hockey with a stick and puck is allowed with members of your bubble or in a group that complies with the government’s directives.

Bibliothèque de Brossard Georgette-Lepage Library: A Week of Virtual Activities
During this special week, librarians from the children’s section will be offering a variety of daily activities for 5- to 12-year-olds. From Monday to Thursday, there will be a video on the library’s Facebook page at 1 p.m. featuring a challenge, craft project or recipe, while on Friday, two live activities will be offered (registration required): Gros plan sur les félins – Zoo de Granby (“Spotlight on the Granby Zoo’s Big Cats”) and Quiz Cerveau sans relâche (“No Break for Your Brain Quiz”)!
