Twenty students from Harold-Napper School visited Town Hall on April 2 to meet the Mayor.
Twenty grade5 and 6 students from École Harold-Napper visited Town Hall on April 2 to meet the mayor and learn more about the role of elected municipal officials. The activity took place in the municipal council chamber, where young people were invited to sit in the elected representatives’ chairs for a simulated council meeting.
Ms. Assaad was delighted to take part in this activity to inform students about the role of elected representatives in a city, and took the opportunity to mention the importance of the role of voters and democracy in a society. The students took part in a mock city council meeting, debating items on a specially designed agenda. District 2 City Councillor Tina Del Vecchio was also on hand to interact with the students.
“It is always with great enthusiasm that I welcome students from schools on the territory, as I believe it is our duty as elected officials, parents and teachers, as a society, to educate young people in citizenship,” said Mayor Doreen Assaad.
