Some 40 Secondary3 students from Collège Durocher Saint-Lambert met with Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad at City Hall on June 5 to learn more about the municipal world and the various levels of government.

Ms. Assaad welcomed the World and Leadership students to the town council chamber, the ideal setting for a simulated town council meeting that allowed the young people to play the role of an elected official and better understand their duties and responsibilities. Participants in this mock session had the chance to sit in the board members’ chairs to make the experience more concrete.

The mayor said she was delighted to have the chance to introduce young people to the municipal environment. “As a mayor and a mother, I’m proud to participate in the civic education of children. For democracy to remain alive and well, it is essential that future generations get involved and actively participate in decision-making, so that citizens’ demands are heard and their rights respected,” emphasized Ms. Assaad.
