In support of recreational and sports infrastructure
Brossard, Quebec,May20 2022. – The governments of Canada and Quebec are working together to provide Quebecers with access to safe, sustainable facilities that promote sports and recreational activities in our communities.
Today, Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, announced financial assistance of over $1.9 million for the construction of a new intergenerational refreshment area at Victorin Park. For the occasion, she was accompanied by the Mayor of Brossard, Doreen Assaad.
The project involves the construction of an intergenerational refreshment area in Victorin Park to replace the existing outdated aquatic facilities. The work consists mainly of demolishing existing facilities, rebuilding a service building, a main pool, a water play area and concrete beaches, and creating areas for relaxation and landscaping.
To carry out this project, the Government of Canada is providing $992,958 under the Community, Cultural and Recreational Infrastructure component of the Invest in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), and the Government of Quebec is providing $992,958 under the Programme d’aide financière aux infrastructures récréatives et sportives (PAFIRS). This new infrastructure will contribute to the vitality and development of the Brossard community and the region as a whole.

Quick facts :
- The project unveiled today joins the 176 recreational and sports infrastructure projects already announced in Quebec for 2021, representing total joint contributions of $294 million.
- Under the CIIP, the federal government plans to invest more than $7.5 billion in Quebec between 2018 and 2028. The purpose of the Invest in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) Integrated Bilateral Agreement is to implement the ICIP in Quebec, and to establish the terms, obligations and commitments of the parties.
- The allocation to the PIIC and PAFIRS programs of a residual envelope of $60 million, provided in equal parts by the governments of Canada and Quebec, will bring joint investment in recreational infrastructure to $354 million.
- The Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec is responsible for implementing the Recreational Infrastructure subcomponent of the Community, Cultural and Recreational Infrastructure component of the EBI.
- Since 2018, the Quebec government has supported the deployment of 1,281 sports, recreational and outdoor infrastructure projects through various programs, with total investments of over $617 million.
- As of today, the Ville de Brossard is contributing $4,042,717 to this project.
