Brossard presents its vision for the development of tomorrow’s Brossard

05 June 2024 Last update 17/05/2025

Board members adopted draft by-laws designed to make way for a new development vision

Yesterday, members of Brossard’s municipal council adopted the main draft bylaws that will lead to the lifting of the interim control bylaw (ICB) on densification adopted in June 2023 to make way for a bold and unifying development vision.

A well-thought-out, coherent, equitable and scalable development vision

“Tomorrow’s Brossard is based on planned and structured development, which translates into thoughtful, coherent and progressive urban densification. This vision takes into account citizens’ aspirations and concerns. Brossard wants to create dynamic, green and inclusive living environments for the community, while respecting the principles of sustainable development,” says Mayor Doreen Assaad.

A vision that could accommodate up to 12,000 housing units in the downtown core and up to 25,000 units across the entire territory, giving our city the opportunity to actively contribute to Greater Montreal’s housing demand. With the arrival of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) and the planned transformation of boulevard Taschereau, Brossard has everything it takes to become an attractive place to live and therefore a structuring development hub, while respecting the peaceful character of mature neighborhoods,” says Doreen Assaad.

A milestone for the future of Brossard

With an updated urban plan and associated bylaws, Brossard can look to the future with confidence that development will be well managed. This vision has been rooted in a number of citizen consultation and public participation exercises since 2021, notably as part of the development of the Plan particulier d’urbanisme (PPU) for Brossard’s future downtown.

Open house and public consultation meeting

In accordance with the Act respecting land use planning and development (LAU), the adoption of amendments to the Urban Plan and concordant urban planning by-laws requires a public meeting at which the Ville de Brossard explains the draft by-laws. Residents who wish to do so also have the opportunity to speak publicly at the meeting. An open house is also being offered to residents to present the highlights of the new vision.

  • Date: Thursday, June 20, 2024
  • Location: Centre socioculturel Alphonse-Lepage
  • Time
    • 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Open house with information booths
    • 7 to 8 p.m. – Public consultation meeting with presentation of development vision and draft by-laws

The information panels that will be posted in the kiosks will be available at brossard as of June 13.

Other public consultation – Infrastructure regulations

Following the public meeting, Brossard will hold a separate public consultation specifically on more technical infrastructure by-laws on June 25. These draft by-laws should be adopted at the regular meeting on June 11. Once all these steps have been completed, council members will be able to vote on the final adoption of the by-laws at the next council meeting, scheduled for July 2. Implementation will follow over the summer.
