Brossard offers hundreds of dollars in savings to encourage eco-responsible behaviour this Earth Day

22 April 2024 Last update 17/05/2025

Grant programs and tree planting to mark this emblematic day.

Brossard, April 22, 2024 – As part of Earth Day, the City of Brossard has launched subsidy programs that will enable residents to save money when purchasing products that promote eco-responsible practices. It also took the opportunity to plant trees to mark the adoption of its very first urban forestry strategic and intervention plan at the city council meeting on April 16.

Hundreds of dollars in savings for everyone

Mindful of the consumption habits of Brossard residents, the city has launched six different programs to help residents save money when purchasing products with environmental benefits. Dozens of eligible products are listed under six programs:

  • Ecological outdoor maintenance tools
  • Sustainable hygiene products
  • Water-saving equipment
  • Washable diapers
  • Domestic composters
  • Trees for front yard planting

For example, thanks to these programs, residents can save up to $200 on the purchase of a new electric lawnmower, up to $150 on the purchase of a first tree for planting in the front yard, and up to $100 on the purchase of a home composter. Those interested in taking advantage of these offers are invited to visit economies.

Up to $7,500 for eco-projects

Brossard also offers a generous grant program for those wishing to carry out a project that benefits the community. Local residents, businesses, institutions and organizations can count on a helping hand to carry out projects such as :

  • improving a community garden and greening schoolyards;
  • the creation of spaces that encourage pollinators;
  • the creation of a library of native plant seeds.

Over the past three years, the city has donated more than $44,000 to fund this type of initiative. To submit a project or learn more about this program, visit brossard.ca/grants.

Commemorative planting

The city also planted two trees to mark the recent adoption of its urban forestry strategic and intervention plan. For the occasion, a tree was planted at the town hall and another at the Maison de Jeunes l’Escalier en Mon Temps. This symbolic gesture reflects two of the plan’s objectives: to promote planting throughout the territory and to encourage citizen participation.

“Year after year, Earth Day represents an opportunity to ask ourselves what we can do to make a positive contribution to our environment. Tree planting is very important to us, and reflects our commitment to providing a green and sustainable living environment. What’s more, by offering our series of subsidy programs, we’re encouraging Brossard residents to adopt eco-responsible consumption habits while reducing the impact on their wallets”, mentioned Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Doreen Assad, Mayor of Brossard, and Sophie Allard, City Councillor and President of the Commission de l’environnement et du développement durable, were on hand for the planting. Volunteers and young people from the Maison de Jeunes were also present at the planting, which took place in front of the organization’s premises.
