On February 16, Brossard city council adopted a declaration of commitment in support of the UMQ campaign.
At its February 16 meeting, the municipal council of the Ville de Brossard adopted a declaration of commitment in support of the “La démocratie dans le respect, par respect pour la démocratie” campaign launched by the Union des Municipalités du Québec (UMQ). In adopting this resolution, the councillors wish to encourage harmonious political debate and denounce all forms of intimidation of municipal council members.
Mutual respect is a fundamental element of a democratic society, and it’s vital that we stand together to combat intimidation in all its forms,” said Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard. Differences of opinion are essential in any society, and must be expressed with civility.
At Ville de Brossard, we share the objectives of the UMQ campaign, and we’re convinced that the people of Brossard will join us in preserving these democratic values,” she added.
In anticipation of next November’s municipal elections, the campaign launched by the UMQ aims to encourage people interested in running for office to follow suit and get involved in the public sphere. It also aims to enhance municipal democracy by strengthening the bond of trust between citizens and their democratic institutions.
The UMQ’s declaration of commitment is available on the organization’s website.
