Last night, elected officials adopted a number of resolutions, including one concerning the rehabilitation of Marin and Olympia parks.
At last night’s regular meeting of the Brossard municipal council, elected officials passed a number of resolutions, including amendments to zoning bylaws in sectors M, P and T, the redevelopment of Marin and Olympia parks, repairs to Boniface Avenue and the possibility for residents aged 70 and over to vote by mail-in ballot. Here are the highlights of this session.
Zoning by-law amendment | Sectors M, P and T
The draft by-law adopted aims to preserve the image, essence and quality of living environments in sectors M, P and T. The adoption of this regulatory amendment was necessary, as current zoning standards have led to the construction of buildings or the addition of storeys to buildings with volumes, heights and architectural styles very different from the existing ones. These changes will give the city greater control over projects, without preventing them, so that they contribute to consolidating existing neighborhoods rather than denaturing them.

Redevelopment of Marin and Olympia parks
Two of the city’s parks will undergo major work to refresh these meeting and entertainment places for Brossard families. First of all, the Parc Marin will undergo a complete overhaul and, when the work is completed, will offer a nautical-themed space. The work represents an investment of $552,912.17, taxes included.
Olympia Park has been identified for a partial overhaul of its facilities. This project involves redesigning the play areas and adding a water play slab reflecting a ninja/sports challenge theme. This new development represents an investment of $1,362,429.11, taxes included.
“We are proud to continue our work so that the people of Brossard can enjoy recreational facilities where they can have fun and grow. Once the work is completed, these parks will be ideal spaces for families and a place to forge links between members of our community,” said Doreen Assaad, Mayor of Brossard.
The upcoming work at Marin and Olympia parks is part of the three-year 2021-2023 capital program, which calls for investments of $42.4 million earmarked for parks and playgrounds.
Repair work on avenue Boniface
Work to repair infrastructure on avenue Boniface, between avenues Bienvenue and Beauchemin, will begin in the coming weeks. The project will involve, among other things, the complete replacement of the water main and sanitary sewer, the reconstruction of the roadway (pavement, sidewalks and curbs), the addition of a bicycle lane, the redevelopment of waiting areas for public transit and the addition of street furniture. The cost of this work represents an investment of $7,056,000, taxes included.
Postal voting for people aged 70 and over
People on the electoral roll who are 70 years of age or older, as of November 7, 2021, will be able to vote by mail in the next municipal general election. This provision is made possible by a regulation issued by the Chief Electoral Officer and is intended to facilitate the running of elections.
National Drowning Prevention Week | July 18 to 24, 2021
With the theme Drowning is avoidable, this awareness-raising week is helping to make drowning prevention a priority. Many citizens have begun the swimming season, and it remains of paramount importance to council members that this activity takes place in complete safety.
“The City is concerned about the well-being of the population, and that’s why we share the importance of adopting safe behaviors when practicing aquatic activities. We’re joining forces with a number of organizations and municipalities to reduce the number of drownings, so that we can all enjoy the summer in complete safety,” asserted the mayor.
