Brossard City Council | April 20th Highlights

21 April 2021 Last update 17/05/2025

Last night, elected officials passed a number of resolutions, including the cancellation of garage sales this spring.

At last night’s regular meeting of the Brossard municipal council, elected officials adopted a number of resolutions, including an important agreement with the Ministry of Transport, the cancellation of garage sales this spring due to the pandemic, the important Municipal Charter for the Protection of Children, and numerous endorsements, including the city’s adherence to the declaration of commitment: United for Climate.

Here are the highlights of this session.

Agreement between Ville de Brossard and MTQ for the construction of a noise-abatement wall

Elected officials adopted a draft agreement with the Ministère des Transports (MTQ). The agreement, which will take the project a step further by conducting studies to assess the feasibility of building a noise barrier on the eastern side of the A-15 in Brossard, between Rivard Boulevard and Riverin Street, defines the terms and conditions for sharing responsibilities and costs between the MTQ and the City. The results of these feasibility studies are expected towards the end of summer 2021.

COVID-19 pandemic: Spring garage sales cancelled

In keeping with the government’s directive to ban outdoor gatherings in order to minimize the risks of spreading COVID-19, the Ville de Brossard, cancels the holding of garage sales on its territory, and this, for the entire month of May 2021.

The city will be closely monitoring the health situation, and will make a decision at a later date on whether or not to hold the garage sales scheduled for September.

Adoption of the Municipal Charter for Child Protection

Ville de Brossard is following in the footsteps of the municipality of Fortierville, which has launched an appeal to all Quebec municipalities to join the caring movement and its values, and to commit to protecting children by adopting the Municipal Charter for Child Protection.

“As mayor of Brossard, president of Espace MUNI and on behalf of the municipal council, I invite all municipalities to take concrete action to promote child protection and help put an end to these tragic and unacceptable incidents of child neglect and abuse,” said Doreen Assaad, mayor of Brossard.

Conducted in collaboration with Espace MUNI and the Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FQM), the Municipal Charter for Child Protection was initiated as part of a mobilization movement in memory of Aurore Gagnon, the “martyred child” born in Fortierville and who tragically died 100 years ago.

UMQ Declaration of Commitment: United for the Climate

The elected members of the Brossard municipal council unanimously endorsed the declaration of commitment, the first step in the ten (10) projects defined by the UMQ as part of its Municipal Climate Platform, adopted on April 8.

In adopting this declaration, the members of the Board commit to making the fight against and adaptation to climate change a priority in their decision-making, and to acting in an exemplary way in their work and personal lives. The Declaration also aims to ensure that board members assume their responsibilities based on science, with the conviction that by facing up to the climate challenge, they are improving the quality of life of their fellow citizens.

“In Brossard, these are not just words, but rather the expression of a deep commitment that is embodied in the city’s dynamic approach to environmental measures. We have an Environmental Action Plan that guides the city’s major actions, and we make it a point of honor to carry them out. By putting the environment at the heart of our priorities, we can bequeath a healthier city and planet to future generations”, insisted the Mayor of Brossard.
