This strategic document brings together 55 concrete measures divided into eight major objectives.

BROSSARD, MARCH 6, 2025 – As extreme weather events multiply, the City of Brossard is taking a big step towards a more resilient, greener future. At the Town Council meeting in February, the Town adopted its very first Climate Change Adaptation Plan. This strategic document brings together 55 concrete measures, divided into eight major objectives, to enable actions to be evaluated. An ambitious initiative that puts in place concrete solutions to tackle the climate emergency.

“This plan aims to mitigate the effects of climate hazards on Brussells’ citizens, employees, infrastructures and ecosystems, while strengthening the city’s resilience in the face of tomorrow’s environmental challenges. It is the fruit of a concerted effort by various city stakeholders, driven by a shared desire to protect and preserve our environment. Brossard is taking a proactive approach by implementing concrete actions to adapt to climate issues, demonstrating that it is possible to act locally and adapt our cities for future generations. I’m very proud of this,” says Brossard Mayor Doreen Assaad.

Understand. Analyze. Taking action.

Climate change is exposing cities to increasing risks, such as torrential rains, extreme heat waves and strong winds. To be better prepared, the city has analyzed the climatic events of the last 25 years and identified the most vulnerable sectors of its territory. Levels of influence were then added to prioritize the implementation of adaptation measures.

Thanks to this analysis, Brossard has established a series of concrete measures, including :

  • increasing the urban canopy to reduce heat islands;
  • improving the stormwater management network to prevent flooding;
  • implementation of a pilot project to create a green infrastructure (rain garden, ditch, etc.) in an existing infrastructure
  • to retain water.

This first plan is the starting point for a committed and ambitious approach that will evolve over time to meet the challenges of climate change. All stakeholders will work hand in hand to make Brossard a more resilient and proactive living environment, where the environment and everyone’s well-being are at the heart of all decisions.
