Éco entreprises Québec demands major change in the management of recyclable materials in all Quebec cities
As part of the provincial government’s modernization of selective collection, starting January1, 2025, Éco entreprises Québec is requiring all Quebec cities, including Brossard, to make significant changes to the management of recyclable materials. The aim of this modernization is to make the recycling system more efficient and place responsibility for the life cycle of their packaging in the hands of producers.
What’s in it for us?
As of January1, 2025 , surplus recycling deposited next to blue bins will no longer be accepted, with the exception of 2 special collections per year. One after the holidays and the second after the moves, watch for the arrival of your 2025 calendar for specific dates.
All materials must be placed in the blue bin and only the bin provided by the City will be accepted. The aim of this change introduced by Éco entreprises Québec is to encourage citizens to choose products with less packaging and, at the same time, to encourage companies that produce packaged products to redesign their packaging so that it can be easily recycled in smaller quantities.
Tips and tricks :
Here are a few recommendations to help you:
- Make sure your recycling bin is in good condition. If your bin is damaged, contact Services Brossard for repairs.
- Respect sorting instructions by finding out what materials are and aren’t accepted in recycling bins. If it’s not packaging, a container or printed matter, it doesn’t go in the blue bin. Visit to find out which materials are accepted.
- Reduce waste by choosing products with less packaging and reusing whenever possible.
- Optimize the space in your bin by cutting and folding your cardboard boxes.
If you still have a 240 L bin, you can exchange it for a 360 L at no charge by contacting Services Brossard.
