The Mayor of Brossard, Doreen Assaad, took advantage of the opening of today’s municipal council meeting to remind Brossardites of the city’s privileged positioning in terms of economic and real estate development, by highlighting the importance of public transit as a success factor.
The mayor shared her experience as guest of honor at the 2023 Back-to-School Summit organized by the Association québécoise des transports, held at the Courtyard Hotel in the Solar district, a site of major infrastructure projects and a symbol of the future and transformation. In front of a packed room of 250 participants, including leading transport decision-makers and leading experts, she presented the benefits of the REM for the city.
The creation of the REM represents an investment of $8 billion, the largest investment in mass transit since the construction of the Montréal metro. And let’s not forget the recent $4.5 billion investment in the construction of the new Samuel-De Champlain bridge. All these investments mean that the Ville de Brossard has a number of assets with which to pursue its economic and real estate development, as a prime location for national and international business conventions.
“Everything is in place to make our city a regional economic development hub, generating benefits for the entire population of Brossard and the South Shore. Downtown Brossard, whose project will be presented by the end of the year, will consolidate our city’s position as a leader,” asserted the mayor.
She also mentioned that while roads and public transport are essential to the development of our community, our elected representatives are determined to implement measures to ensure personal safety on the territory. The mayor then reiterated the importance of innovation in order to capture everyone’s attention on this priority issue.
“That’s why we opted for an innovative pilot project like FRED (Educational Slowdown Light). Unfortunately, we had to admit that we were ahead of the regulations. All this to say that we are on the lookout for non-repressive means of raising awareness among motorists to ensure the safety of the population,” added the mayor.
There’s always a positive side to every situation, and FRED has given Brossard national and international exposure for its boldness and willingness to take action on road safety.
This is the spirit behind the C’est fragile road safety campaign. Slow down. was launched a few weeks ago. This campaign will continue in 2024 with some new features.
