2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal: The Elite Road Races Will Start in Brossard

Leisure and sports 08 September 2026 Last update 08/09/2026

The public is invited to attend the departures on September 26 and 27 and to plan their travel starting September 19

On September 26 and 27, Brossard will be at the center of the action as it hosts the starts of the Elite Women’s and Elite Men’s road races at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal. Billed as the largest sporting event held in Montréal since the 1976 Olympic Games, these Championships will bring together some 1,000 athletes representing more than 80 countries. The public is invited to come cheer on the world’s best cyclists along the course or enjoy the festivities and entertainment at Quartier DIX30 for free.

Two spectacular starts to experience in Brossard

In anticipation of this international event, the Ville de Brossard is also asking people traveling between the South Shore and Montreal to plan their trips starting September 19, due to the races and street closures in the city. In Brossard, the main roadblocks will be concentrated on September 26 and 27.

“For two days, Brossard will be at the heart of the global cycling world. Hosting the starts of the Elite Women’s and Elite Men’s road races is a source of immense pride and an exceptional opportunity to put our city on the international map. I invite the residents of Brossard, as well as visitors, to come out in large numbers to Brossard’s Quartier DIX30 to cheer on the athletes and experience this great sporting moment together. To make the most of it, I encourage everyone to plan their visit and travel arrangements,” said Doreen Assaad, mayor of Brossard.

The public is invited to come cheer on the athletes during the two flagship events of the Championships:

  • Women’s Elite Online Road Race: Saturday, September 26, at 9 a.m.;
  • Men’s Elite Road Race: Sunday, September 27, at 9 a.m.;
  • Meeting place: DIX30 neighborhood (near the Cineplex Odeon VIP);
  • Free access.

A Fan Zone will allow the public to experience the excitement of the event. The cyclists are also scheduled to pass through Brossard a second time approximately 90 minutes after each start.

September 19–25: Increased traffic toward Montréal

Although no major race-related disruptions are expected in Brossard from September 19 to 25, several areas of Montréal will be affected by street closures and traffic diversions. Extra caution will be needed on Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22, due to scheduled closures on the Bonaventure Expressway heading toward Montréal. These could exacerbate traffic congestion on other routes leading to the island.

The routes and traffic conditions will vary from day to day. People who need to travel to Montréal are encouraged to check their route before each trip, allow extra time, and, whenever possible, adjust their schedule or mode of transportation.

The event will continue in Montréal on September 26 and 27, while additional local traffic disruptions are expected in Brossard due to the start of the Elite road races.

September 26 and 27: Major traffic disruptions in Brossard

The races will start in the DIX30 neighborhood. Significant traffic disruptions are expected in the DIX30 and Solar areas, as well as on Grande Allée, Boulevard de Rome, and surrounding streets. The routes will then continue toward Montréal via Marie-Victorin Boulevard and the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge.

RTL service will also be affected on September 26 and 27. No service will be provided at the Brossard terminal during the disruption, and approximately 60 stops will be temporarily skipped. Some lines will be rerouted to the Panama terminal or will operate on a modified route.

To get to the venue, spectators are encouraged to take the REM to the Du Quartier station or to use the Chevrier parking lot and the shuttle service to Quartier DIX30.

The interactive map shows the routes, the affected streets, and the planned crossings. The public is encouraged to check it before traveling, as it will be updated if any changes are made.

Plan Your Trips Carefully

The City recommends that residents and anyone wishing to watch the departures:

  • allow more time for their commutes;
  • give priority to public transportation whenever possible;
  • Check the carriers’ advisories before each trip;
  • Check maps and traffic conditions before hitting the road;
  • Stay informed by following the Ville de Brossard’s announcements to learn about restrictions specific to the Brossard area.
