Work on Grande Allée
In the spring of 2026, the cities of Longueuil and Brossard will begin work on the rehabilitation of Grande Allée, between avenue Baudelaire and avenue Alma, to modernize municipal infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life.
This is the second phase of work on Grande Allée. The first phase was carried out in 2019 to widen Grande Allée, between Jonergin Street and the Autoroute 30 viaduct.

The work in brief
- Bus-only lanes in each direction.
- Addition of one-way off-street cycle lanes in each direction.
- Secure bicycle crossing at rue Perlini intersection.
- Addition of traffic lights.
- Replacement of drinking water pipes and valves under the street.
- Repair and/or replacement of sewer pipes, if required.
- Reconstruction of roadway and foundation, sidewalks, existing traffic lights, lighting and median strip.
- Public utility work, i.e. the burying of some overhead crossings and the relocation of a few poles.
- Greening of the axis and addition of street furniture.
Investment (estimate)
A major investment of $43 million by the Ville de Longueuil and the Ville de Brossard in active mobility and urban infrastructure.
Obstacles and mitigation measures
- Major traffic obstructions to be expected.
- Presence of a liaison officer in the field to gather concerns and liaise with the various teams.
- Maintain access to businesses and properties at all times.
- Maintain at least one lane per direction, with oncoming traffic.
- Signallers present.
- Dust control and frequent cleaning.

Future developments
- Sidewalks widened to 1.8 m.
- Addition of pedometer plates at crosswalks.
- Adding sound signals :
- avenue Alma ;
- rue Auteuil ;
- rue Orchard.
- Addition of off-street cycle lanes in each direction, 1.5 m wide.
- Connection of the bicycle network on rue Perlini, boul. Milan and boul. Chevrier.
- Safe crossing for cyclists at the Rue Perlini intersection.
- Implementation of bus-only lanes in each direction to support ridership growth.
- Addition of 10 new bus shelters, 6 of them more spacious and comfortable.
- Addition of 4 new traffic lights
- Perlini: safer crossing for pedestrians and cyclists ;
- Boisvert: required by the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité Durable (MTMD) standard;
- Canon: addition of a safe crosswalk ;
- Baudelaire: safety for all movements, as required by MTMD standards.
- Modernization of 6 existing traffic lights
- Alma, Anthony, Auteuil, Aline, Redmond, Orchard.
- Revision of traffic light synchronization.
- Addition of a priority system for Longueuil Fire Department vehicles.
- Replacement of street lamps and luminaires with LED technology.
- 1.5 m wide planted benches between the reserved lane and the cycle path.
- Central median 4.5 m wide with plantings.
- Planting of :
- more than 300 deciduous trees, conifers and shrubs;
- over 2,000 shrubs ;
- over 5,000m2 of perennials and grasses.
- Addition of street furniture.
Timetable
Redevelopment work: spring 2026 to autumn 2028
- Start of works: mid-April 2026
- Phase 1 | Construction on the Brossard side: April to November 2026
- Phase 2 | Construction of the Longueuil side: April to November 2027
- Phase 3 | Construction of central median and landscaping: spring-summer 2028
- Marking and signage: spring 2028.
- Completion: autumn 2028.
