Description
Revelation/Liberation brings together two series of abstract works by Denise Buisman-Pilger. They reflect the artist’s quest for liberation and her journey toward resilience and self-confidence.
Unveiling marks a break from fifteen years of meticulous figurative painting. The paintings feature cautious brushstrokes, dense layering, and moments of restraint, reflecting the difficulty of letting go in the face of perfectionism. The artist learns to trust his intuition while seeking to break free from the reassuring security of control.
Liberation arose from the freedom that followed. Created during a period of uninterrupted isolation in the studio, these works mark a profound opening toward a renewed sense of freedom and joy. Generous, fluid, and free-flowing, these panels are guided by movement, a vibrant color theory, and a curiosity about materials. Both emotionally expressive and structurally deliberate, they embrace vulnerability and creative risk with maturity.
The exhibition takes the audience on a psychological journey: from hesitation to confidence, and from reserve to profound openness, giving way to moments of both inner calm and visual energy.

After more than fifteen years of working within highly structured and detailed figurative frameworks, Denise Buisman-Pilger’s artistic approach has undergone a radical transformation. By distancing herself from external expectations, she turned to an open process guided by the material itself. Experimentation and calculated risk-taking now guide every composition, giving rise to works that place freedom, movement, and authenticity at the heart of their values. Traces of the work, visible underlayers, and organic imperfections are deliberately preserved. Far from being mistakes to be corrected, they are a living testament to his decisions and his presence.
