About

Description

Through the portrait of a woman, Marie-Josée Desjardins explores how identities are constructed, transmitted and transformed. Drawing on visual archives and digitally assembled photographic images, she creates hybrid portraits composed of fragments of female faces and bodies.

Combining acrylic paint and embroidery – a gesture rooted in a history long associated with women’s work – the artist creates a dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity. Her works become open narrative spaces where memory, heritage and transformation combine to question the richness and complexity of female identity.
