Miroir Exquis refers to the moment in printmaking when an impression is drawn from the wood block, creating a mirror effect like magnificent wings flapping before your eyes. It also refers to the way we see ourselves reflected in the natural world. Far from being separate from nature, human beings are part of nature, interconnected and interdependent. The natural world is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. This exhibition invites you to slow down and take a closer look at the structures and patterns of nature, allowing for contemplation and a deep appreciation of our shared connection with our environment and with each other.
In reduction engraving, a single block of wood is used to create a multi-layered image. The template for each new layer is created from what remains of the previous one. The previous layer must be destroyed to create the next. In this way, the act of creation becomes at once a liminal act of destruction. Once a first edition is printed, it’s impossible to go back and print more. You have to trust the process.
