Through the prism of autism, artist Jean-Guy Turgeon’s work explores the universal themes of isolation, rejection and alienation, as well as the vulnerabilities of neurodivergent people. Her photographic creations reveal the nuances and complexities of these often misunderstood experiences, drawing on her own experiences and those of her models, who sometimes collaborate in the creative process.
Favoring photography, but also adept at video and digital art, the artist aims to freeze moments and movements of emotions or raw feelings. His approach, in many ways Symbolist, is characterized by compositions that call for introspection, imbued with a liminality that sometimes verges on the mystical, and recalls the worlds of Expressionism and Surrealism.
