Description
With Harmonic Fractures, Costin Tuta presents large-format charcoal drawings that have been transformed and fragmented through the use of colored resins. By disrupting the continuity of the design, this material forms shimmering geometric structures. Like shards and rays of light, the resins filter and refract the image, fragmenting and multiplying it depending on the viewer’s position in the space.
The artist creates a dialogue between traditional techniques, such as charcoal drawing and dry-pigment painting, and contemporary experimental approaches, notably three-dimensional resin castings. The works thus present a dual contrast: tradition and modernity overlap; bright colors and shades of gray are juxtaposed.
The works offer a striking visual experience in which human figures, organic objects, and geometric structures in vibrant colors come together and intertwine to create a stunning visual universe.

Costin Tuta’s approach is based on experimentation with the physical properties of resin—transparency, layering, fracture, and refraction—which allows him to create surfaces where the design and the resin structures interact in real time with the viewer’s movement.
The artist also bases his approach on the existence of structural correspondences and formal similarities between cellular structures, geological formations, and astronomical configurations. Her research-based creative work falls within a broad range of concerns, including ecology, memory, and cultural heritage, as well as the identity-related tensions inherent in experiences of uprooting and resettlement.
