Description
In Digital Art on Fibers, multidisciplinary artist and weaver Paulette-Marie Sauvé presents some thirty works created from personal photographs and woven on an electronic Jacquard loom.
Inspired by marine biodiversity, birdlife, and the St. Lawrence River, she celebrates the beauty of natural environments while reflecting on their fragility. His works create a dialogue between the colors of coral reefs, urban landscapes, and river waters.
In the Digital Chamber, the artist pushes the boundaries of weaving by incorporating optical fibers, electronic circuits, projections, and algorithms into her tapestries. These technologies produce light and kinetic effects that transform the textile surface and invite the audience to interact with the artwork.
The exhibition brings together traditional craftsmanship, contemporary design, and digital innovation.

Paulette-Marie Sauvé ‘s expertise spans more than 50 years. She began exploring textile art in 1972 and went on to study at the Institute of Applied Arts in Montréal starting in 1974. She subsequently pursued further training in both the visual arts and the textile arts, working on high-shed and low-shed looms, electronic dobby looms, and Jacquard looms. In 1992, she earned a master’s degree in visual arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
She initially focused her work on monumental art and performance installations, through which she developed an electronic language at a very early stage to create motion effects using electrical transformers to incorporate fluorescent lighting. In her sculptural works, she blends unconventional materials, combines various mixed media techniques, and does not hesitate to push her works beyond traditional boundaries in order to deconstruct their contours. Starting in 2016, the artist began weaving on a Jacquard loom, which allowed her to create works with greater detail and to use a technique that relies on digital programming. Long characterized by a completely abstract style, his works are now inspired by both the urban environment and biodiversity.
